Setup
- Three receivers occupy one narrow court, with a setter and two passers. Servers wait behind the opposite end line.
- With 12 players, run two groups of six side by side. One server works at a time in each game.
How it runs
Three receivers face a group of servers. Each serve starts a pass-set-send sequence. Receivers score one for three contacts returned in bounds. Servers score one when a legal serve breaks the sequence. A missed serve gives receivers a point. Switch jobs after ten serves.
Time and reps: 10 to 20 minutes.
Coaching points
- Give the setter space off the net.
- Use a standing third ball until the pass and set are steady.
- Call the score before the next serve.
Make it easier or harder
Make it easier
- Serve from closer to the net so receivers can build the sequence.
Make it harder
- Serve from the end line and require an attack for the third contact.
